Inscryption Wiki

You probably think what I do is easy. Fiddle with the numbers, tweak the graphics... and voila! Botopia is made. No. You're wrong. You try making a card, go ahead.

Build-a-Card is an event in Act III of Inscryption, first encountered in the southwest of the Resplendent Bastion, northwest Botopia. Similarly to the Card Recycle event, the player is prompted to pick a card from their deck to permanently destroy, but instead of gaining Robobucks, the player instead gains 'SP' to spend on making their own card from scratch in a point-buy system.

Recycling Stage[]

The value of a card selected for recycling is based on the amount of changes the player has made to it. All cards give 1 SP by default, and give an additional SP for each additional Sigil placed onto them. The source of the Sigil does not matter, however it is important to note that the Sigil must be added to the card. Sigils present on cards by default give no additional SP. The Sigil Power of the individual sigils does not influence the amount of SP given.

Gemifying a card also causes it to give an additional +1 SP.

The Most SP a single card can grant is 6. This is achieved by adding 4 additional Sigils to the card, and then proceeding to Gemify it. The only card that allows that is Gembound Ripper, since naturally present Sigils count for the 4 Sigil limit, but not for this event, and Gembound Ripper is the only obtainable card in Act III that by default has no Sigils.

Creation Stage[]

The Creation stage is where the player may make their own card by spending SP gained from the Recycling Stage, as well as an additional +1 free SP. It is split into multiple segments in which the player sets various aspects of their card.

Cost[]

BuildACard1

The player may set the card's Energy Cost between 0 and 6 Energy. Each additional required energy grants +1 SP to be spent on the later steps.

The highest amount of SP that can be gained during this step is +6 with a cost of 6 Energy.

Stats[]

BuildACard2

The player may set the card's attack Power and Health. Each additional health point costs 1 SP, while each additional power point costs 2 SP.

The minimum amount of Health a card can be given is 1, while the minimum amount of damage a card may be given is 0. Both stats cannot be set higher than 9.

Sigils[]

BuildACard 3

The player may set up to 4 Sigils that they wish to appear on the card. Only Sigils with the MetaCategory Part3BuildACard appear as options.

The SP Cost of any given sigil is equal to its Sigil Power, meaning that more powerful sigils cost more SP. Sigils with negative Sigil Power values grant additional SP rather than spending it. The only two available negative sigils are Annoying, granting +1 SP, and Brittle which gives +2 SP.

Sigils with a Sigil Power of 0 (namely Airborne and Detonator) do not cost SP to add to a card, but also do not grant additional SP.

Appearance[]

BuildACard 4
The player may set the card's appearance by cycling through various premade heads, bodies, and faces for their robot.

Name[]

BuildACard 5

The player may set the name of the created card by cycling through various preset words as part of a three-part name.

Completion[]

BuildACard 6
Once all previous steps have been completed, the played must select confirm to finalize their creation and receive their completed card.

Strategy[]

  • Giving a bot the Unkillable, Battery Bearer, Annoying, and Brittle sigils allow for you to farm for as much energy and cards as you want in a single turn. (Note: Annoying and Brittle are to reduce the SP cost of making the card.)
  • Recycling a card that gives +4 SP points, giving a bot Unkillable, Battery Bearer, Gift Bearer, and Brittle sigils allow you to farm as much energy AND cards within a single turn. (Note: Brittle is required as above and use hammer on card once played. Cards that offer 4 SP points need to have 3 added sigils and/or be Gemified.)

Trivia[]

  • The most possible SP the player can gain during the entire Build-a-Card Process is 15, 6 from giving a Gemified Card with 4 added sigils during the Recycling Process, 6 from setting the card's Energy Cost to the maximum, and 3 from adding the Annoying and Brittle sigils to the card.
