Goobert[3][4][5] is a character in Inscryption. He serves minor roles in Act I, Act II and Act III.
Background[]
Goobert is one of the graduate students of Magnificus. For his final exam, he was turned into goo, making his existence full of constant, unbearable pain. Despite his formless body, Goobert has managed to take on or continue a hobby of painting, showing to at least be good enough to replicate Leshy's cards. He also searches for OLD_DATA for his master, presumably through the piping system in his Tower.
Personality[]
Despite his torturous existence, Goobert remains optimistic. He attempts to help the player with puzzles during Act I, and remains hopeful that Magnificus will solve whatever the current situation is. Goobert shows insecurity about his hobby of painting, initially panicking about the player finding his artwork, and assuming the player hates his work if they don't look at it for long enough, but this quickly fades and becomes replaced with newfound confidence.
Relationships with other characters[]
Goobert looks up to Magnificus more than his other students and treasures him greatly, hoping that one day his master will return these feelings. Unfortunately, Magnificus does not seem to care for Goobert, but does show signs of remorse after losing him during the Finale.
Goobert also has a rivalry with The Angler, presumably due to their similar roles of allowing their leaders to assume positions of power.
Act I[]
Goobert appears as the Failure item. When attempting to use him, Leshy will refuse to allow it and places him on the shelf next to the squirrel statue.
After this, he becomes an NPC and can be spoken to by interacting with his bottle. He comments on the player's progress and provides some puzzle hints.
Kaycee's Mod[]

Goobert cannot appear as the Failure item anymore, and his spot on the shelf is taken up by the Gramophone.
Event[]
Goobert will appear on the table holding a brush with two easels beside him. One has a blank card and the other has a slot for a card.
The player is prompted to place one of their cards (except for Ouroboros, Long Elk and other ) in the slot. This will have Goobert paint a copy of it, however he may get some details wrong, such as the Sigil being different or adjusting the stats of the card. The natural sigils of a card cannot be altered (despite being displayed as natural, the Annoying sigil granted by the Annoying Starters challenge CAN be modified). If a rare example occurs where 2 instances of the same sigil are on a card, only one will appear (except for Bone Digger and Fecundity), but Goobert can change one of these sigils and keep the other, making it seem like he created a sigil. The reverse can also happen, where a sigil is hidden/deleted because it is changed into one the card already bears.
Act II[]

After solving the puzzle on the first floor of Magnificus' Tower, the player is transported into a room containing Goobert. When spoken to, he will engage in dialogue and initiate battle.
Battle[]
Goobert's deck is focused around Green Gems, with Green Mages as his main attackers.
Strategy[]
Because his Green Mages rely on Emerald Mox to gain Power, destroying them is a top priority to keep his cards weak or defenseless. Sentry Drones work well at shutting down a lane from having any Emerald Mox, however they require additional support against Green Mages.
Post-Battle[]
After defeating him, Goobert begs the player to tell Magnificus he passed and gives the player a Magical card pack. The player is then transported out of the room and he opens the door to the second floor of the Tower. He cannot be revisited after his defeat.
Act III[]

After making some progress, Goobert can be briefly seen in the pipe to the right of P03. If the player then heads to the smelting room, Goobert can be found inside the pipeworks, where he serves a similar purpose as he did in Act I. He comments on the player's progression, but does not provide any hints.
The same totem used to access him in Act II can be found here, and upon activiating it, the player is transported to the same room as it did in Act II. Here the player can find a painting Goobert made of him and Magnificus, and after 'encouraging him' (looking at it enough) he will have enough confidence to show it to Magnificus.
Finale[]

Goobert himself does not appear, but if the player convinced him to show Magnificus his painting, it will appear on the path to Magnificus. In the painting Goobert is covered in Magickal Bleach, possibly due to guilt by his master.
Trivia[]
- Goobert has his own Steam Emoticon.
- The Goo Mage card that appears as the intro to the Goobert fight in Act 2 has a stat line of 1/1. This is in reference to the fact that he is the first of Magnificus' pupils the player fights.
- Goobert is the favorite character of Daniel Mullins.[6]

- (after the player is transported back to the Tower) "Here, I can open this door for you. Rrggh!"
