Grimora is one of the four Scrybes of Inscryption, the Scrybe of the Dead. She creates cards by noting tombstones' epitaphs with a quill on paper. She resides inside her crypt during Act II.
Background[]

Grimora's way of creating cards as outlined in Act II's opening cutscene.
Grimora is one of the four Scrybes of Inscryption, being the Scrybe of the Dead and creator of the Undead deck. Using her quill, she inscribed the epitaphs of the deceased and turned them into cards for her deck. Grimora's ultimate goal is to assume control of the game, so that she may then use it bring it all down, thus ending the power struggle that she and the other Scrybes are locked in.
Grimora comes across as serious and concerned most of the time, but appears to have a mild sense of humor. She is excited for and eager for battles, often expressing it before a game begins. She even expresses her thoughts on having a chance to play a full game with Luke Carder during the deletion process. By contrast she is accepting of whatever role she is cast into by the other Scrybes' control, even when it is self-inflicted.
Act I[]
Grimora appears in Act I as the Stinkbug. An unknown amount of time before the events of the game, she was turned into a card by Leshy and hidden within his safe. After she is released from her prison, she will be permanently added to the player's deck and occasionally give the player clues on how to escape.
Act II[]
Act II Battle[]
Grimora is fought as the boss of her area. In her battle, Grimora will only specific cards that come back when defeated. At the start, she will play a Bonehound, before preparing to play a Sarcophagus and a Banshee. The Bonehound can be used to prevent one of these cards from entering play.
During this fight, each creature that you defeat will be given an epitaph (a quill notes it on paper). It will be written:
- "R.I.P [name of the card]"
- "Turn [number of the turn it was put on the table] - [number of the turn it was destroyed]"
- "Death by [card that killed it or cause of death]"
When you no longer have cards, if the enemy's frontline is full of cards, one of them will be destroyed and replaced by a Starvation (the written cause of death will be "by accident"). If a Starvation replaces another Starvation, it doesn't trigger an epitaph.
When a creature is defeated, it will be resurrected 2 turns later, appearing on the enemy's backline.

The player's hand, after Grimora kills the players cards.
At the start of the second phase, all of your cards on the table will be destroyed - the epitaph reading "RIP All your cards" "Turn 1 to Turn(number of current turn)" "Death by Grimora". - and then replaced in your hand as 0 Power and 1 Health, with the cost reduced to 0 while retaining any Sigils and abilities they had before. These cards will keep their names, but will have a withered appearance. Grimora will also prepare to play a Zombie.
After defeating her, Grimora will express satisfaction with her defeat and will request the player to spare her should they defeat all the scrybes. The player will then receive 2 Undead card packs.
Interruption[]
Should the player have chosen to replace Grimora, she will appear sorrowful. She expresses great displeasure of being forced into a cycle once more. She comments that if it were up to her she would delete everything so that all of them can finally rest. She will ask the player who is taking control of Inscryption and soon after P03 will appear. She lambasts P03 before disappearing and P03 engages combat.
Finale[]
After Leshy snaps the head of P03 off its body, the 3 remaining Scrybes meet again. Grimora uses the Archivist's folder to gain full access to the game files and deletes the contents of the floppy disk. Magnificus says that Grimora has doomed them all, but Grimora insisted that the deletion is freedom from all their strife and suffering. It fades to black before you end up in Grimora's Crypt, where you play cards with her. However a tomb blocks the path with an empty slot and 3 nameplates with text that read "P03", "Inscryption.exe" and "Lucky Carder". You need to place these into the headstone to access the next area, similar to the puzzle to gain access to the Grimora battle in Act II. It does not matter what order you place them in, as the first two will always be deleted as you try to insert them, while the last one will remain and open the path to Grimora.
Her map is unlike Leshy's, appearing as a chessboard with several pieces you can interact with in order to trigger her Events. Any card battles here will be played with her Bone gimmick, and use alternate models for the bell, scale, and other set dressing.
She puts on a mask of Royal Dominguez and sets the theme when you get to the "Boss" of her board before it gets deleted almost right after she does. You shake her hand before Grimora herself gets deleted and you move on to face the next Scrybe, Leshy.
If you die at one of the other battles before that, however, it skips and ends the campaign prematurely.

Trivia[]
- Grimora could be inspired by Hecate, or Hekate - a goddess from Greek and Roman mythology variously associated with crossroads, entrance-ways, ghosts, necromancy, and sorcery, similar to Grimora, although we see no indication of Grimora practicing Magick. In some traditions of modern Paganism, she is believed to be the gatekeeper between graveyards and the mortal world.
- Grimora's name may be a reference to the kikimora, a house spirit from Slavic mythology who, in some stories, is said to be the wife of the same deity that Leshy is named after and based on.
- It's interesting to note that her body is not found in backroom of Leshy's Cabin, Unlike P03 and Magnificus.
