When a card bearing this sigil perishes the file used to create it is really deleted from your Hard Drive.
For more info on how file selection operates, as well as strategies involving this sigil, see Captive File.
Hostage File is a sigil that, when a card bearing it dies, causes the file linked to that card to be "permanently deleted" from the player's computer. In actuality, this is simply a bluff: the file is not actually deleted, but a different, special file is created within the selected file's directory. This sigil is exclusive to The Archivist boss fight and the Captive File card.
Behavior[]
Death[]
When a card bearing this sigil dies, instead of deleting the file (as P03 claims), a text file is created inside the folder of the file in question named "[filename] DELETED.txt". The file, a message from P03, explains that it doesn't have the ability to delete files, but asks the player to delete the file themselves. If the file is moved out of its current directory (because it was deleted or otherwise), P03 will mock the player for expecting a "reward", and they will earn the Agonizing Remorse achievement.
DELETED.txt[]
At least... I tried to delete it. But it seems my powers of FILE ACCESS do not extend that far.
Play by the rules you agreed to. Delete it yourself.
Have an ounce of respect for the rules. Come on.
Trivia[]
- Originally, this sigil did actually attempt to delete the selected file from the player's computer (though for much of the beta, failed to do so for technical reasons). However, after "horrified reactions" from beta testers and intervention from Devolver Digital (Inscryption's publisher), Daniel Mullins ended up removing this aspect.[1]
