The Hydra is a rare Beast card in Kaycee's Mod of Inscryption. It is the hatched form of the Curious Egg. It can only be obtained by selecting the Curious Egg starter deck.

Strategy[]

Hatching the Curious Egg into the Hydra is incredibly difficult. It requires having cards in your deck with Power ranging from 1 through 5, Health ranging from 1 through 5, and one of each Tribe. Amalgam can be used as a wildcard for tribe representation, but each copy can only cover one tribe at a time. Goobert copies of Amalgam are always tribe wildcards regardless of mistakes. The egg itself counts towards the goal, so if you don't buff it, the 1 health will be covered. Ijiraq contributes its stats (4/1) regardless of what card it is copying.

Anytime the hatching requirements are met at the time it's drawn during a battle, the Curious Egg will transform into a 1/5 Hydra (returning to its Curious Egg form when in your deck between battle). The Hydra is a powerful card that strikes multiple times over thanks to having both the Bifurcated and Trifurcated Strike Sigils: twice to the left, once in the middle, and twice to the right. As of the current version of the game, the Hydra inherits both sigils that were present on the original card and campfire buffs. It is also of every tribe in the game like Amalgam, so it can be buffed by any totem.

The Finical Hatchling sigil works when transferred to another card, unless it is the Ijiraq disguised as the card with the sigil in which case it will not turn into a Hydra, the resulting Hydra is identical to one produced from a Curious Egg. Outside of a battle, creatures with the sigil will return to their usual form.

Good Upgrades

  • Any Sigil that increases Power, such as Fledgling (the Curious Egg becomes an "Extra Curious Egg") or Blood Lust, to boost the card's already high damage output.
  • Touch of Death defeats multiple cards at once. This guarantees the Hydra can do at least 2 Damage and kill everything in the three slots in front of it.
  • Unkillable returns the card to your hand in its Hydra form when it perishes, and due to its 1 bone cost, allows it to be played again right away
  • Airborne allows the card to strike the opponent directly.
  • Mighty Leap can block all forms of damage.
  • Rabbit Hole (from a Totem): Any card that the Curious Egg is sacrificed onto, once hatched into a Hydra, will produce a Rabbit which also has the Finical Hatchling Sigil, which when played produces another Rabbit with the Finical Hatchling Sigil, and so on. This can theoretically create infinite no-cost Hydras.

Bad Upgrades

  • Corpse Eater is not recommended given the card's low cost.
  • Waterborne negates the high Health of this card and is not recommended.
  • Worthy Sacrifice is sacrifice dependent and not recommended on this powerful card.
  • Moving Sigils such as Sprinter, Hefty, and Rampager are less desirable as they can reduce the card's damage output.
