Its true appearance is frightening... even to me.

The Ijiraq is a Rare Beast card appearing only in Kaycee's Mod. It will indistinguishably mimic another random card, revealing itself only when played. It will cost the same amount as that card if that card requires blood, or if the card requires bones it will require the appropriate amount of bones but not use them up. Sigils that activate on play such as Hoarder or Trinket Bearer will still have their effects occur. Sigils that activate on draw, such as Amorphous or Finical Hatchling, will not activate. This can be used to determine the identity of Ijiraq as soon as it is drawn.

When initially found, it will take the appearance of another Rare card, but can be told apart by its red glowing eyes and a question mark at the end of its name. It can also be determined if it mimics a card with blue sigils from the sacrifice stones, as they will appear red. When viewing your deck, it continues to mimic other cards and shows its red eyes. Due to its mimicking ability, it is unable to be sacrificed to another card and thus its Repulsive sigil cannot be transferred.

Strategy[]

The Ijiraq is very powerful, but hard to plan around. Before taking it, consider the average cost of cards in your deck. If there are many expensive cards such as the Turkey Vulture or Urayuli, the Ijiraq can be both hard to play and possibly not worthwhile compared to the card it was pretending to be.

A strategy to circumvent this is using a bone focused deck with sigils such as Bonedigger and Scavenger and many cards costing bones. Because Ijiraq only requires you to have enough bones for the card it's disguising as and doesn't consume those bones, it is generally better when disguising as a bone-costing card. It is more likely to do this in bone-heavy deck.

If Ijiraq is in your deck, it is risky to oppose cards with the Sharp Quills Sigil due to its very low Health. If on the board during Leshy's or Royal's third phase, the player effectively wins, as the Moon or the Limoncello cannot attack the Ijiraq due to its Repulsive Sigil and therefore can't hit you directly either.

Trivia[]

  • The Ijiraq is a mythical creature that is known for its shapeshifting abilities, with the only tell being its glowing red eyes.
  • Despite never being in its true form while in your deck, Curious Eggs will still count Ijiraq's health and power towards unlocking the Hydra.
  • If the Ijiraq is the last card in your deck it will disguise itself as a Squirrel.
  • If Ijiraq disguises itself as a pelt it will show no attack, but still do 4 damage.
    • If Ijiraq disguises itself as a pelt while viewing your deck, the entire pelt will be red.
    • If Ijiraq disguises itself as a golden pelt and you place it down, Ijiraq will reveal itself with a golden color.
  • If Ijiraq disguises itself as a card that is affected by your Totem, it will retain the sigil granted by the Totem upon being placed.
  • The Ijiraq is the only card in Kaycee's Mod to not have an Act II card art style. Instead, it uses a Mole Man with a glowing red eye as its card preview to display its shapeshifting abilities.
