The bloodthirsty Red Hart. Its power grows as the blood is spilled.
The Red Hart is a Beast card from Kaycee's Mod.
Strategy[]
The Red Hart is a difficult offensive card to use effectively as it requires constant sacrificing to do damage. It also moves around and has low Health, meaning that it can be easily defeated if it runs into the path of an opposing card. Its greatest strength is that it can deal a large amount of damage quickly, gaining Power for every sacrifice made - including those from cards carrying the Many Lives Sigil.
Note that Red Harts on Leshy's side of the field will gain Power from the sacrifices you make. Sometimes it may be preferable to not sacrifice a card to keep the opposing Red Hart at 0 Power.
Improving Red Hart is more dependent on having a deck that can utilize continuous and efficient sacrificing. If you are able to generate an efficient sacrifice loop then you are capable of making Red Hart very powerful. The most efficient method of powering it up once it hits the field is by having two cards with Unkillable which can be sacrificed into each other, allowing the Red Hart to gain damage quickly. Thanks to the multiple Bones made as a result of sacrificing so many creatures, it may be worth considering taking cards that synergize with Bone decks; of particular note being the Lammergeier due to having One Half Bones.
Good Upgrades
- Health buffs from the Campfire allow the Red Hart to stay on the board longer.
- Rabbit Hole can be used to generate a card that can be used for further sacrifice. Bees Within can similarly be useful, though the player will want to first buff it's health before using the latter.
- Airborne allows the card to attack directly, which can be lethal with enough sacrifices.
- Many Lives can allow the Red Hart to be used as a sacrifice without losing it while also increasing its Power.
- Sigils such as Bifurcated and Double Strike grant multiple attacks.
- Sigils that grant the card additional Power such as Blood Lust and Fledgling allow it to be useful after its Power has been reset.
Situational Upgrades
- As Brood Parasite will always also give the selected card Airborne when using a Cuckoo as a Sigil sacrifice, the only real danger of this Sigil is if a Raven Egg is generated when played. However, if this card is obtained from the Deck Trial, has Brood Parasite, but does not have Airbone, it should be avoided entirely, since the generated egg will now unnecessarily block the Red Hart from dealing damage, and will waste a turn dealing the necessary damage to remove the blockage. That being said, the player can take advantage of dealing overkill damage to the egg to eliminate dangerous cards waiting to be played if they have the means to generate enough sacrifices to deal the extra damage.
Bad Upgrades
- Corpse Eater defeats the intended purpose of the card, whether it is applied to it or other cards in the player's deck.
Synergies
- Red Hart combines well with Magpie, which can be used as an intermediary to draw Red Hart or a free/Bone cost unit, thus giving Red Hart 4 Power when it is played.
- The Many Lives Sigil on the Cat grants Power to the Red Hart. Use this to quickly build damage in a single turn.
- As mentioned previously, the effects of Spilled Blood are quite effective at getting Bone cards on the field, as well as generally being fantastic for the Lammergeier.
Trivia[]
- The Red Hart is the only new tribal card (excluding the Hydra) added in Kaycee's Mod that shares its Blood cost with the rest of its newly added tribe members (Wild Bull being the only one).
- In real life, Hartebeests are a popular hunting target, being easily visible animals. This could explain why the Red Hart's damage output is based on Spilled Blood: the number of lives you have taken this turn could reference hunting animals, taking their lives.
