The battle had taken a toll on you. Your supply of new creatures was exhausted. Starvation began to set in...

Starvation is a card that appears in all Acts of Inscryption. Starvation cannot be normally obtained and is intended to be a countermeasure against soft-locking.

Starvation only appears when the Challenger has no more cards available to draw at the beginning of their turn. After starting a turn with no more cards to draw, a Starvation is placed on the middle row (the opponent's side), in the first unoccupied space from the Challenger's left, regardless of whether or not an Hourglass was used. If all spaces are occupied, it would replace a card on the middle row, not excluding other Starvations.

The first Starvation of each battle has 1 Health and 1 Power, and each subsequent Starvation has 1 more Health and Power than the previous. The fifth Starvation onward has the Airborne Sigil, and the ninth Starvation onward adds a single weight to the Challenger's side of the scale every time it is summoned.

Starvation is absent during the final boss fight of The Moon or The Limoncello, with the bosses themselves instead gaining power directly. Because of this, if either card has already been destroyed, no Starvation will appear, which can lead to a soft lock (however unlikely).

Trivia[]

  • Starvation appeared in Sacrifices Must Be Made as the Starving Man. It behaved as a normal card with no Sigils or Traits.
  • It's possible to obtain Starvation without cheats, the requirement of the player to get a Starvation card is during Leshy's 1-2 phases where he switches to The Trader and where it can be "bought".
