Me Pelts are clean.
The Trapper
The Trapper is an NPC and boss in Act I and an NPC and opponent in Act II.
He is an odd looking man who traps animals to create and sell Pelts. He and the Trader are the same person, with him seemingly being the lesser, more aggressive personality of the two. Leshy uses the same mask for both, just flips them upside-down.
Act I[]
Event[]
The Trapper will offer the player Pelts in exchange for teeth.
The Pelts offered are as follows:
- Rabbit Pelt - Costs 1 to 2 teeth
- Wolf Pelt - Costs 2 to 6 teeth
- Golden Pelt - Costs 3 to 11 teeth
Note: Pelts increase in cost every area, and after beating his boss fight once, his prices will be lowered in every subsequent run.
The player will also receive 1 Rabbit Pelt for free upon encountering the Trapper.
These Pelts may be traded with the Trader for in exchange for cards. See her page for more details.
Boss Fight[]
The Trapper is the boss of the Snow Line. He has two phases.
Phase 1[]
The Trapper starts with 2 Strange Frogs and 1 Leaping Trap on the board. He will play a variety of cards such as Bullfrogs and Strange Frogs.
If the player hasn't died at least twice, defeating the first phase will result in the Trapper filling the board with Grizzly cards with the Mighty Leap Sigil.
Phase 2[]
After defeating his first phase, the Trapper flips his mask upside-down, becoming the Trader and revealing they were the same person this whole time.
At the start of this phase, the Trader will play random cards with random extra Sigils in all 8 of her spaces, then after putting all Wolf Pelts played back into your hand and giving you one extra, allowing you to trade. Each Pelt in your hand, including ones you drew yourself can be used to obtain one of the cards, but any not traded for will fight for her.
Strategy[]
There are 2 possible uses for the Wolf Pelts obtained during the first phase: the first is to conserve them for the second phase so that you may trade them for the Trader's powerful cards. The second is to use them as meatshields during the first phase. You must choose whatever you feel is appropriate for the situation you are in: if every opposing card is being blocked by one of yours or the damage you will receive from said cards isn't too severe, you may keep the Pelts. However, if it is necessary you may also use these as temporary cover to avoid any damage.
Post-Battle[]
After they're defeated, the player has their candles relit and proceeds to the Cabin.
After defeating the Trapper for the first time, his prices are permanently reduced in all subsequent runs.
Act II[]
The Trapper can be battled by showing the Trader a picture of a Pelt in Leshy's Cabin. After this she will flip her head upside-down and become the Trapper, who will initiate battle.
Battle[]
The Trapper will always start by playing a Bullfrog and a Burrowing Trap. After this he will play a random mix of Bullfrogs, Coyotes, and Ravens.
Strategy[]
The cards the Trapper plays can differ greatly every time you battle him, so one should be prepared for whatever he'll pull on you. His Burrowing Trap can be safely activated by a card with Bifurcated Strike, and Trifurcated Strike as long as the card is not in the same lane, although be wary of any cards that may be in that lane, as they will perish. It can also be flown over by Airborne cards, making it effectively useless if all your attackers are Airborne.
Post-Battle[]
After defeating him, he gives the player a Beastly card pack and turns back into the Trader for the rest of the game.
Kaycee's Mod[]
Shop[]
The Trapper will allow you to purchase the Skinning Knife alongside Pelts.
Battle[]
The Trapper's Role in Kaycee's mod is roughly the same as in Act I, however he can be encountered earlier, as the map order is randomized in the mod. If encountered as the first or second boss, he will play weaker cards such as rabbits in the first phase. In the Trader's Phase, she will fill the board with weaker cards, and only the second row of cards will have sigils.
If the Trapper boss is fought and killed early, both the Trapper and Trader events will be different. Since they are dead, they will no longer appear at their shops but mechanically buying and selling pelts will continue as normal, with Leshy explaining that the player is doing this out of respect for the dead.
