Uberbots are the bosses in Act III of Inscryption. There are four Uberbots spread across Botopia, each corresponding to a Scrybe found in the corresponding position in the map of Act II.

The Photographer[]

They take pictures of the board and can revert it back to that state. You can reset from a hard phase 2 board to an easy to win phase 1 board. Changing to phase 2 does nothing. They are the Uberbot of Foul Backwaters.

This boss represents Leshy:

  • P03 describes this eerie bot as potentially "waiting in the dark looking for Challengers" much like Leshy.
  • Both share an orange color scheme, use a camera and have a "different" way of speaking.
  • Both sit in the dark inside their cabin in the woods, filled with beasts to fight. The name of this Uberbot's area "Foul Backwater" is also based on P03's description of Leshy's "Foul Cabin"
  • Fishbot will remark how it reminds him of "Leshy-Fish."

The Archivist[]

After attacking their bots, they will ask you to pick a file from your computer and put it on the scale. The bigger the file you choose, the more damage it will do. A few file names have special dialogue. If you select a file called Inscryption.exe (doesn't have to be the real game, it's just in the name) they will say "Be careful with that one!" A file named Pony Island.exe will make them say "That poor soul..." and The Hex.exe will make them say "Lionel did what?" These are references to Daniel Mullins' other games. After moving into phase 2, they will tell you to choose a file that is old, and dear to your heart. Then that file will be put into a card. If it is a photo file, The Archivist will replace their face with the photo. Depending on how old the file is, it will give it different stats, although P03 says that if the card dies, the file will be deleted. Even if it does die, P03 adds a file saying that it cannot delete the file due to the file access not giving them the permission to do this, (as then the game could be considered malware) but that you should anyway. If you delete the file afterwards, it will say "You really did it?" and you then get the achievement "Agonizing Remorse". They are the Uberbot of Filthy Corpse World, in the Dank Crypt.

This boss represents Grimora:

  • They use Gravestones in the start, and the deletion mechanic is similar to how Grimora uses the dead to battle.
  • Their location is based on Grimora's crypt from Act II, even including Grimora's well in one location.
  • They also use a teal color scheme like Grimora.
  • The item required to fight this Uberbot is Grimora's quill.

The Unfinished Boss[]

PO3 asks you to create a boss, giving you many options for the gimmick of the fight. This is one of the bosses where its really important to understand your deck before making the gimmick. In Phase 2, you create a second gimmick. Upon drawing Fishbot, he will say "No boss. Make rule. Break game?" Creating a rule that does break the game by going on for too many cycles will cause P03 to get annoyed and disable one of the offending boss gimmicks for the rest of the fight. Additionally, if the fight goes on for a long time, you can create one extra gimmick. They are the Uberbot of Gaudy Gem Land, in the Rickety Old Tower.

There are some interesting gimmicks you can make. For example:

  • Every time a card dies / A random card takes 5 damage. The board is wiped whenever a card dies, except for nano armored cards.
  • Every time you play a card / A random card is played. True chaos at its finest.
  • Every time you play a card / I play a L33PBOT. Every single card you play is met with some defense.
  • Every time your turn starts / All cards take 1 damage. Every card is eventually going to die!

The boss represents Magnificus:

  • P03 likes to pretend he doesn't exist.
  • The ability to choose the gimmicks of the fight aligns with Magnificus' ability to change the sigils of cards.
  • Painting the bosses' face and the paintings used to show the boss rules are based on Magnificus' use of painting.
  • The red color scheme for the text is similar to Magnificus's text while talking.
  • Goobert remarks that it reminds him of "The Master".
  • They are also located atop a wizard tower like Magnificus was in Act II.

G0lly[]

She starts the battle by playing a Mole. Afterwards, she uses the web to grab people from your friends list to become bots with varying stats, but they are often very powerful. During the boss fight, G0lly tries to give you a card made by other players. If it doesn't work, then she'll give you a Mummy Lord instead. In Phase 2, Golly asks you to return the favor and create a card for someone else. If she can not find one, you receive the card. If she does find somebody, the battle is paused and G0lly comments on how the other player is doing. If the other player wins, Phase 2 is skipped entirely. If not, you receive the card you made and continue Phase 2. The music that G0lly uses is more upbeat to signify innocence. They are the Uberbot of the Resplendent Bastion.

This boss very loosely represents P03, located inside the factory and also having some of P03's physical features such as the head crank and only one arm.

Trivia[]

  • Über, sometimes written in English as uber, is a German preposition and prefix meaning "over" or "above", usually in the context of quality. Its use as a loanword in English stems from Fredrich Nietzsche's philosophy of the Übermensch or Superman, a hypothetical future human who has outgrown Christian morality.
